  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Janice Sims -- Please don't let this be the last Stewart Hoag mystery! : Amazon has this listed as book 12 on a 12-book list of Stewart Hoag mysteries. I hope David Handler isn't seriously ending the series here. There is so much more I'd like to know about Hoagy and Lulu and Marilee. Hoagy is finally writing again for one thing. He and Merilee are in love. And Lulu has piles of anchovies she hasn't enjoyed yet. As a mystery lover myself, I'm not saying a word about the book, except it was fabulous! Oh, and there was a guest appearance in here of a character from one of Handler's other mystery series, Berger & Mitry. I miss the Berger & Mitry series so much. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from G. Plude -- So worth the wait : I just finished the book this morning and it was everything fans of the Stewart Hoag series would want and more. The story definitely keeps you turning the page, both the mystery itself as well as Hoagy's author mojo reawakening. I'd suspected who the murderer was but not the motive which was a nice twist. Now I'm going back to reread the series while I wait/hope for more! Most definitely worth the read. ( Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from brenda100 -- Loved it! : I always enjoy David Handler’s novels, and I am so glad he chose to bring the Hoagy series back. I rarely give 5 star reviews, but this book was truly delightful. ( Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Janet Chambers -- Best one yet : Even though I knew right away who the killer was, the best part is always finding out how Hoagy and Lulu catch them. ( Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Jamflame -- Love Hoagy and Lulu : I have read all of the books in this series and they only get better. David Handler has a great way of bringing Hoagy and Lulu to life so you actually feel like you are sitting there talking to him. Can’t wait for the next in the series!!! • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Mimi Hodgkins -- Typical, completely satisfying read as all David Handler’s Stewart Hoag Mysteries are. And as he always, I’m wondering how I can wait another year to read Hoagy and LuLu’s next adventure! : Typical, completely satisfying read as all David Handler’s Stewart Hoag Mysteries are. • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Frozen_Lizard -- Good (not great) addition to a fun series : This is book number twelve in the Stewart "Hoagy" Hoag (and Lulu) book series. It can be read as a standalone but some of the magic is lost if you haven't read any of the previous books. ( Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Miggy -- A Spenser-ish protagonist with a sense of humor : Stewart “Hoagy” Hoag, seeking a change of scenery as he writes a novel, heads to his movie star ex-wife’s Connecticut farmhouse. His only companion is Lulu, his faithful basset hound with a taste for anchovies. Of course, the solitude isn’t destined to last, as shortly after arriving Hoagy is accosted by a mentally unstable guy waving a gun around and impersonating a law enforcement officer. Despite terrorizing may of the locals, this person is granted unusual latitude by the police because he turns out to be a billionaire. It’s a recipe for grudges, giving us no shortage of suspects when the inevitable happens. Hoagy has a smart-alecky way of interacting with the other characters that is funny, as opposed to annoying, because he is obviously a good guy. This makes for snappy dialogue reminiscent of the work of Robert B. Parker, and Hoagy’s matter-of-fact competence with household repairs like window glazing adds to his Spenser-ish vibe. It’s fun to watch him investigate the murders with the grudging acceptance of the local police, who know they can use the help. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2021 )
